대한예방의학회(이사장 윤석준 고려대학교 의과대학 예방의학교실 교수)는 지난 5월 14일부터 17일까지 미국 볼티모어에서 열린 미국예방의학회(American College of Preventive Medicine·ACPM) 연례학술대회에 참석해 예방의학 분야의 한미 국제 협력 확대 방안을 논의했다고 밝혔다.
이번 회의는 ACPM 연례학술대회 기간 중 진행됐으며, 양 기관은 한국과 미국 예방의학계가 직면한 주요 현안과 향후 협력 가능성에 대해 폭넓게 의견을 교환했다. ACPM은 공식 보도자료를 통해 대한예방의학회와의 파트너십 체결 사실도 공표했다.
양 기관은 예방의학 분야 학술 교류를 비롯해 공동연구, 인력 교류, 정책 협력 등 다양한 협력 방안을 논의했다. 특히 만성질환 예방과 건강증진, 암 검진 및 조기진단, 지역사회 기반 예방 전략, 공중보건 신뢰 회복 등 예방의학의 핵심 과제를 중심으로 양국의 경험과 정책 사례를 공유하며 지속적인 국제 협력 필요성에 공감했다.
대한예방의학회는 이번 회의를 통해 미국 예방의학계의 최신 동향을 공유하고, 한국 예방의학의 학술적·정책적 경험을 국제사회와 연계할 수 있는 협력 기반을 마련했다고 설명했다. 또한 향후 예방의학 분야 국제 공동연구와 학술 네트워크 확대를 위한 중요한 출발점이 될 것으로 기대했다.
윤석준 이사장은 “이번 ACPM 지도부와의 회의는 한국과 미국 예방의학계가 공통 과제를 공유하고 실질적인 협력 가능성을 확인한 뜻깊은 자리였다”며 “앞으로도 예방의학 분야의 국제 학술 교류와 공동 협력을 지속적으로 확대해 나가겠다”고 말했다.

The Korean Society for Preventive Medicine (KSPM), led by Chairperson Yoon Seok-jun, professor in the Department of Preventive Medicine at Korea University College of Medicine, announced that it participated in the American College of Preventive Medicine (ACPM) Annual Scientific Meeting held in Baltimore, United States, from May 14 to 17, where the two organizations discussed ways to expand bilateral cooperation in the field of preventive medicine.
During the meeting, held alongside the ACPM annual conference, both organizations exchanged views on major issues facing the preventive medicine communities in Korea and the United States, as well as future opportunities for collaboration. ACPM also officially announced its partnership with KSPM through a press release.
The two organizations discussed a wide range of collaborative initiatives, including academic exchanges, joint research, personnel exchange, and policy cooperation in preventive medicine. In particular, they shared experiences and policy cases related to key preventive medicine challenges such as chronic disease prevention, health promotion, cancer screening and early diagnosis, community-based prevention strategies, and rebuilding public trust in public health. Both sides agreed on the need for continued international collaboration in these areas.
KSPM stated that the meeting provided an opportunity to share the latest trends in U.S. preventive medicine while establishing a foundation for connecting Korea’s academic and policy experiences in preventive medicine with the international community. The society added that the meeting is expected to serve as an important starting point for expanding international joint research and academic networks in preventive medicine.
“This meeting with ACPM leadership was a meaningful opportunity for the preventive medicine communities of Korea and the United States to identify shared challenges and confirm the potential for practical cooperation,” said Yoon Seok-jun, Chairperson of KSPM. “We will continue to expand international academic exchanges and collaborative efforts in the field of preventive medicine going forward.”
