종근당이 미국 보스턴에서 글로벌 오픈이노베이션 프로그램 ‘CKD Pharm Golden Ticket’을 개최하고 차세대 바이오 스타트업 발굴에 나섰다. 올해는 AI 기반 단백질 엔지니어링과 T세포 생물학 기술을 보유한 미국 바이오테크 기업 ‘Arpelos Biosciences’가 최종 선정됐다.
종근당(대표 김영주)은 20일(현지시간) 미국 보스턴 LabCentral 센터에서 ‘2026 CKD Pharm Golden Ticket’을 개최하고 바이오테크 기업 Arpelos Biosciences에 Golden Ticket을 수여했다고 밝혔다.
이번 행사에는 종근당 김재순 부사장과 CKD USA 김호원 법인장, 보스턴 총영사관 김재휘 총영사, 한국보건산업진흥원 김현철 미국지사장 등이 참석했다.
‘CKD Pharm Golden Ticket’은 종근당이 주최하고 보스턴 케임브리지 바이오 클러스터의 핵심 기관인 LabCentral이 공동 운영하는 스폰서십 프로그램이다. 유망 바이오 스타트업에 LabCentral 입주 기회를 제공하고 글로벌 네트워크 구축과 전략적 협력을 지원하는 방식으로 운영되고 있다.
특히 초기 단계 혁신 기술을 선제적으로 발굴해 공동 연구개발과 글로벌 협업으로 연결하는 오픈이노베이션 플랫폼으로 주목받고 있다.
이번에 선정된 Arpelos Biosciences는 2024년 설립된 초기 바이오테크 기업으로 미국 켄달 스퀘어를 기반으로 활동하고 있다. AI 기반 단백질 엔지니어링과 T세포 생물학, 다가(multivalent) 치료제 개발 기술을 핵심 역량으로 보유하고 있으며 차세대 자가면역질환 치료제 개발을 추진하고 있다.
올해 행사에는 면역학, 신경과학, 종양·암 면역치료, 안과질환, AI 기반 연구 플랫폼 등 다양한 분야의 혁신 기술을 보유한 약 50개 바이오 스타트업이 지원했다.
외부 심사위원으로는 하버드대 박진모 교수와 김영범 교수, 데브라 피티(Debra Peattie) 박사 등이 참여했으며, 최종 후보에 오른 보스턴 소재 바이오 스타트업 3개사가 연구 성과와 기술력을 발표하며 경쟁을 펼쳤다.
종근당 관계자는 “CKD Pharm Golden Ticket은 글로벌 오픈이노베이션 중심지인 보스턴에서 유망 초기 바이오텍을 발굴하는 중요한 창구”라며 “앞으로도 CKD USA를 중심으로 글로벌 제약사 및 스타트업과의 네트워크를 확대하고 공동 연구개발 등 실질적인 협업 성과 창출에 집중할 계획”이라고 말했다.
한편 LabCentral은 미국 매사추세츠주 정부가 지원하는 세계적 바이오 스타트업 인큐베이터다. 현재까지 344개 이상의 초기 바이오 기업을 지원했으며, 누적 투자 유치 규모는 218억5,000만 달러 이상에 달한다. 또한 총 1,846건의 특허와 171건의 임상시험 성과를 기록하고 있다.

The event was attended by CKD Pharm Vice President Kim Jae-soon, CKD USA President Kim Ho-won, Consul General of Korea in Boston Kim Jae-hwi, and KHIDI USA Branch Director Kim Hyun-chul, among others.
The “CKD Pharm Golden Ticket” is a sponsorship and open innovation program jointly operated by CKD Pharm and LabCentral, a core institution within the Boston-Cambridge biotech cluster. The program provides promising biotech startups with access to LabCentral’s incubation facilities while supporting global networking opportunities and strategic partnerships.
The initiative has evolved into a global open innovation platform designed to identify early-stage innovative technologies and foster collaborative research and development opportunities.
Founded in 2024 and based in Kendall Square, Arpelos Biosciences is an early-stage biotech company focused on next-generation autoimmune disease therapeutics. The company specializes in AI-driven protein engineering, T cell biology, and multivalent therapeutic development technologies.
This year’s competition attracted approximately 50 biotech startups across various fields, including immunology, neuroscience, oncology and cancer immunotherapy, ophthalmology, and AI-based research platforms.
An external judging panel featuring Harvard University professors Park Jin-mo and Kim Young-bum, along with Dr. Debra Peattie, selected three Boston-based finalists, each of which presented their research achievements and technological capabilities during the final evaluation.
A CKD Pharm official stated, “The CKD Pharm Golden Ticket serves as an important gateway for discovering promising early-stage biotech companies in Boston, the global hub of open innovation. Through CKD USA, we will continue expanding our network with global pharmaceutical companies and startups while focusing on generating tangible collaborative R&D outcomes.”
LabCentral, a nonprofit biotech startup incubator supported by the Massachusetts state government, has supported more than 344 early-stage biotech companies to date. The organization has facilitated over $21.85 billion in cumulative investment funding and generated 1,846 patents and 171 clinical trial achievements.
